The Fifth Annual Urban Applefest and Apple Pie Baking Contest is taking place Saturday, Oct. 23 from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Union Project at the corner of Stanton and Negley avenues in Highland Park. Admission to the fest is $5 for adults and $2 for kids 12 and under (admission includes tastings of apples and ciders).

The day will include apple cider, pulled pork sandwiches, pies by the slice (with optional ice cream from Shadyside’s Oh Yeah!) and, of course, apples to sample. You can also enter the Pro-Am Apple Pie Baking Competition! The entry fee is $5, and pies must be received by 10:30 a.m. for judging.
