Bakery Square, the $113 million, 495,000 sq ft mixed-use project located on Penn Avenue in the former Nabisco Factory, was featured in Pop City yesterday for making notable progress. Read more about it.
The development will feature two floors of retail, a fitness center, office space, a Marriott hotel, rental townhouses and a parking garage. If all of this weren’t enough, Walnut Capital and partners are looking to make the building LEED certified with solar-paneled roofing and wind turbines.
The optimistic opening date for the development is Christmas of 2009.

1. Craig Stevens says
Construction has begun at the Bakery Square site however there have been no community meetings to provide information on the plans for this development, let alone an opportunity to comment on the plans since the October 2006 community meeting on the Bakery Row development plan.
We will all pay for the TIF that Walnut Capitol received for Bakery Square. The least the East Liberty community deserves is the opportunity to comment on Walnut’s plans and the impact it will have on the surrounding community.
What’s up with this???
