The evening begins at 6 pm with a splash of Caribbean culture featuring music, food and dancing. Trinidadian diva Caplyso Rose takes the stage at 7:30 and a dance party follows from 9 to 11 pm. Tickets are $20 and may be purchased at www.kelly-strayhorn.org or by calling 412.363.3000. It’s all part of the fifth annual East Liberty LIVE! series.
Rose, the first female artist to receive the honor of being named “Capylso King,” later changed to Calypso Monarch, continues a 50-year strong career of bold rhythms and melodies with witty social commentary that turns any venue into a Carnival.
Born McCartha Linda Sandy-Lewis in Bethel, Tobago in the West Indies, Calypso Rose began writing music and singing at age 15. Today, she travels the world lighting up the stage.
