East Liberty Circulation & Mobility Vision-to-Action Final Meeting
The final meeting for the East Liberty Circulation & Mobility Vision-to-Action was held at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh’s East Liberty branch December 3, 2013.
Stefani Danes from the Remaking Cities Institute spoke to the East Liberty Walkability and Accessibility Study process including: a summary of the community input from the October 22, 2013 workshop; a summary of the community input from the public survey; and the high priority, potential locations/recommendations for walkability and accessibility improvements.
Philip Baron from Walker Parking Consultants did the same for the East Liberty Parking Study process: a summary of the community input from the October 3, 2013 workshop; a summary of the community input from the public survey; and the high priority, potential locations/recommendations for parking improvements.
A poster session followed the presentations to allow meeting attendees to ask the consultants and research team questions, and to provide the public input on the potential recommendations.

This input will be critical to the success of these community-driven processes. The survey will influence the results reported out at the final community meeting for the East Liberty Walkability & Accessibility Study and Parking Study Tuesday, December 3. East Liberty Walkability & Accessibility Study Workshop
The East Liberty Walkability & Accessibility Study workshop October 22, 2013 allowed the community to fully review the existing conditions walkability & accessibility inventory collected by the Remaking Cities Institute with the research team present. The research team walked the room through this work completed to date, then the community had the opportunity to review.
Community members also learned about: Pittsburgh’s zoning code in regards to walkability & accessibility; which partners are responsible for maintenance in the public rights-of-way; and what variables in the landscape contribute to or detract from the pedestrian experience: safety, destinations, sidewalk condition, traffic speeds, spatial enclosure/visual interest, parking, etc.
Community assets and issues in regards to East Liberty walkability & accessibility were determined by the community. This community member and partner input will be critical to the success of the East Liberty Walkability & Accessibility Study process.

East Liberty Parking Study Workshop
The East Liberty Parking Study workshop October 3, 2013 allowed the community to fully review the existing conditions parking inventory collected by Walker Parking Consultants with the consultants present. The consultants walked the room through this work completed to date, then the community had the opportunity to review.Community values, users, assets, and issues, regarding East Liberty parking, were determined by the community. Goals for the East Liberty Parking Study were also explored.
Community members also learned about Pittsburgh’s zoning code and parking system, as well as East Liberty’s parking landscape: supply, ownership, access, and occupancy levels.
This community member and partner input will be critical to the success of the East Liberty Parking Study process.

East Liberty Circulation & Mobility Vision-to-Action Kickoff Meeting
The East Liberty Circulation & Mobility Vision-to-Action kickoff meeting was held at the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh – East Liberty August 21, 2013. It was a huge success with over 100 attendees! Don Carter from the Remaking Cities Institute spoke to the purpose and process of the East Liberty Walkability and Accessibility Study, and Philip Baron from Walker Parking Consultants did the same for the East Liberty Parking Study.
The crowd was a diverse mix of community residents, property owners, developers, community development corporations, and representatives from local institutions and businesses (including Thrill Mill, the Kelly Strayhorn Theater, and the Mosites Company among others).
A great deal of East Liberty partners also participated, including the following: the Department of City Planning, the East Liberty Quarter Chamber of Commerce, the Urban Redevelopment Authority, the Pittsburgh Parking Authority, the Port Authority of Allegheny County, Bike Pittsburgh, Allegheny County Health Department, Rep. Ed Gainey’s office, City Council Districts 8 and 9, PennDOT District 11, Allegheny County Economic Development, and Pittsburgh Public Schools.

East Liberty Circulation and Mobility Vision Public Workshop
The East Liberty Circulation and Mobility Vision comprehensively defines our community’s needs as they pertain to circulation and mobility. Its purpose is to guide future, comprehensive transportation planning in our neighborhood that will allow all types of people to travel to and move around the neighborhood, safely and smoothly, by any mode they choose. The East Liberty Circulation and Mobility Vision exists to ensure that future transportation planning improves our community’s quality of life.
