We want to extend a huge congrats to our partner Tammy Thompson on her recent appointment as Commissioner of the Housing Authority of the City of Pittsburgh (HACP). Effective July 1, 2020, Tammy will serve the HACP by offering her expertise gained as Executive Director of Circles Greater Pittsburgh and through her work to eradicate poverty and educate people around the psychological impacts it has on individuals and families.

“I hope to be able to offer my first-hand experience as a former Housing Authority resident as well as my professional experience in assisting families on their journey to self-sufficiency,” she said. “I believe my personal and professional experience will be impactful in developing and implementing positive change at the authority.”

Majestic Lane, Deputy Chief of Staff & Chief Equity Officer of the City of Pittsburgh reached out and asked Tammy to serve at the mayor’s request. Her new role will function similarly to a volunteer board position, and Tammy will continue serving as Executive Director of Circles in addition to leading her many other projects.

Having experienced the challenges of habitual homelessness herself, Tammy is committed to working hard to prevent similar experiences for the families in our communities by working alongside HACP staff, fellow board commissioners, local officials, and landlords.

“My personal challenges in poverty prepared me to bring a perspective of poverty that is often overlooked. I’m hoping to help shape policies and programming that puts the well being of the men, women, and children that are served by the HACP at the forefront. I want to be the constant reminder that people are at the core of every decision made, and I’m honored to serve each and every one of them.”

Please join us in celebrating this new leadership opportunity for Tammy!
