East Liberty Development, Inc. strives to create sustainable mixed income communities by designing and implementing comprehensive community plans in collaboration with residents in the East End of Pittsburgh. As part of our neighborhood stabilization initiative, it is imperative we play an important role in providing residents with the opportunity to achieve complete physical, mental, and social well-being by assisting them in the development of their fullest potential.

Planning for social equity includes principles related to the adopting of plans, policies, and regulations that are fair and achieve a healthy environment, vibrant community, diverse cultural assets and amenities, equal and adequate services and infrastructure, mix of affordable housing options, and economic opportunities to low-income and minority residents. Social Equity ensures that individuals and groups:

  1. Have access to a wide variety of experiences, resources, goods, and services;
  2. Are protected from health, economic, environmental, and social disparities;
  3. Have the opportunity to participate in public decisions; and
  4. Are treated fairly regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, income, gender, age, or disability.

Therefore, ELDI is seeking a motivated and experienced individual who will develop and design a business model for a pilot program that will help vulnerable families achieve their goals of social stability while also securing stable housing through the neighborhood’s transformation process. Helping families achieve social goals will make them better tenants, homeowners, and better neighbors. Achieving social goals of family stability, employment, and education will help them be permanent members of the revitalized community.
