Celebrate and remember the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Monday, Jan. 17 with these special events in East Liberty:
“I’m Making Peace With…” at the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater; 2-4 p.m.
Celebrate Dr. King’s legacy of peace and unity with performances on stage by local Pittsburgh performance groups working toward a greater cause through art. Performers include Dreams of Hope, the YMCA Westinghouse Lighthouse Project, Pittsburgh Black Theater Dance Ensemble, KST’s Alumni Theater Company and African drumming group ABAFASI. In the lobby, create family friendly crafts and learn about organizations making a difference in the community.

“Beloved Community” at Union Project; 4-8 p.m.
Become part of Union Project’s 1,000 Birds Project by making your own ceramic bird ornament, and choose one to take home. Photographers will take pictures of your unique bird in your hands, and include the photo in a special photographic mosaic, to be exhibited at Union Project and on the website.This is a free, family event with live entertainment, storytelling, book giveaways, tours of Union Project and cultural readings. The event will end with a community meal starting at 6:30. Serving as Union Project’s partners are Braddock Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh, Chick-fil-A, First Commonwealth Bank, Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council, Open Door Church and Reading is Fundamental.
