Patrick McDonough, an urban planner from North Carolina, took himself on a self-guided mobility workshop of East Liberty and documented the experience on Twitter.
Read his perspective of the neighborhood below:
I went on a self-guided mobile workshop to the East Liberty neighborhood this evening, riding the P1 bus on the East Busway. Here’s a thread with some observations 1/x #rvpgh #Railvolution

Once off the streets and on the busway- what a difference. Anyone doubting the importance of fully dedicated lanes for true #BRT should come ride the East Busway. There are other BRT elements that could be improved on (fare collection) but A+ for lanes 3/x #rvpgh #Railvolution pic.twitter.com/wYVnsvzDwl

There appear to be two active freight tracks immediately adjacent to the busway. This is a condition other transit authorities will not likely be able to replicate elsewhere. 4/x #rvpgh #Railvolution pic.twitter.com/NtQZmUmPnn

Back in North Carolina, @chtransit has previously looked at the possibility of building on the Southern Village P/R lot. I’d encourage @CHTDirector to visit this PGH if that idea moves forward. 6/x #rvpgh #Railvolution

There’s more development coming in across the street. An office building is going up, and a @target has opened. It has TONS of parking, almost certainly too much. At least most of it is under the building. That’s all for now! 8/fin #rvpgh #Railvolution pic.twitter.com/pF0VWvfC0j
