East Liberty is one of 36 Pittsburgh neighborhoods ranked as “very walkable” or a “walker’s paradise” on the national website walkscore.com. The website expanded today to include rankings for 2,500 cities (from the former 40).
Pittsburgh’s overall score is 67 (on a scale of 0-100), ranking the city as a whole as “somewhat walkable”. East Liberty ranks as the 19th most walkable neighborhood, with a score of 78 (“very walkable”).
Scores are based on the range of amenities offered within a certain distance; the closer the amenity, the higher the score. An amenity within a quarter-mile gets the maximum number of points, decreasing to zero if the amenity is a mile or more away. Scores are weighted by population density (based on the 2000 Census).
