Construction on the Eastside/Ellsworth Avenue Pedestrian Bridge will be underway Monday, May 9. Please see the following release from Port Authority Transit regarding the 75 Ellsworth bus route, which will operate on a detoured route beginning Monday May 9 at 9 a.m.

Contractors for the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) and the City of Pittsburgh assigned to the upcoming Eastside Pedestrian Bridge Project have announced the closure of Ellsworth Avenue (aka Ravenna Street) between the intersections of Spahr Street and Shady Avenue, tentatively for Monday, May 9, 2011.

The closure will allow for equpiment necessary to pursue the placement of the new bridge superstructure at Ellsworth Avenue or spanning Port Authority’s East Busway and Norfolk-Southern Railroad tracks to occur.

The closure will tentatively occur at 9:00 a.m. on monday, May 9, 2011.

Once closed, Ellsworth Avenue will remain so in that location for approximately seven (7) months, or until the bridge is complete and scheduled to open.

Port Authority passengers familiar with the former 71C Wilkinsburg via East liberty routing will recognize the detour to be used by 75 Ellsworth buses. However, no stops along the former route will be served while on detour.

This detour will be effective upon notice from traffic or by a road operations supervisor on the scene. Resumption of regular route will be announced at a later date.
