On Thursday, July 18th, a community info session was held to seek input from East End communities on the proposed redevelopment of the Shakespeare Street Giant Eagle in East Liberty. The redevelopment is being initiated by Echo Realty and Greystar. At the meeting, they presented their plans for the new transit-oriented mixed-use development.
Currently, 232 residential units are planned, 24 of those being affordable units. The development is also slated to have 75,000 square feet of retail space, including a new Giant Eagle grocery store, restaurants, and small shops.
During the evening’s break-out sessions, community members expressed concerns over the amount of affordable housing, accessibility, the construction impact, and more. A summary of that feedback is available here. You can also view the presentation discussed during the meeting to learn more about what’s in store.
The next step of this planning process is a follow-up community meeting where the developer will present any changes they’ve made to their plans based on the feedback from the first meeting. This meeting is slated for early September. Stay in the loop by subscribing to our newsletter.
