On Friday, Sept. 17 the Kelly-Strayhorn Theater is partnering with The Waffle Shop to transform an urban parking spot into a one-day outdoor performance space. PARK(ing) Day is an annual global event where citizens, artists and activists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces, which are temporary public places.
Come to the KST for performances complete with stage, curtains, and theater seats! See five-minute shows every half hour that require the participation of passersby and favorite local characters. From 12PM to 2PM, and again from 5PM to 6PM, voice your opinion in post-show video interviews by CMU students from The Waffle Shop. And don’t forget to bicycle on down to the PARK(ing) Day After Party Extravaganza from 5PM to 7PM in the KST lobby.
KST PARK(ing) Day events are free to attend. Here is a complete KST PARK(ing) Day schedule:
10AM to 6PM: 5 minute outdoor shows every half hour. Located right in front of KST on Penn Ave.
12PM to 2PM & 5PM to 6PM: video interviews
12PM & 5PM: Tour the Kelly Strayhorn Theater
5PM to 7PM: Park yourself at the Kelly Strayhorn Theater for the PARK(ing) Day After Party Extravaganza! Eat, drink, and play games with Obscure Games Pittsburgh. If you feel the spirit move, then move with the sweet sound of music that fills the theater. Put the breaks on life and enjoy yourself at KST! And don’t forget to go back Saturday for Srishti Dances of India.
