We’re deeply saddened by the passing of Domenic Scoglietti, a long-time partner and friend of ELDI. As the owner of his family-run demolition business, Scoglietti Demolition, Dom played a key role in our community development work—helping clear the way, quite literally, for new beginnings. But his impact extended well beyond the job site. Dom brought grit, good humor, and a big-hearted spirit to every project, always showing up with a story, a smile, and a steadfast work ethic that never wavered.
His legacy lives on not only in the buildings he helped bring down, but also in the communities that are rising up in their place. Over the years, the Scogliettis have had their hand — from cleaning out mountains of debris to taking walls back to the studs — in most of ELDI’s FHLB, PHARE, and other housing rehabs.
“Every time I would show up to check on a worksite, Dom, though approaching 80 years old, was shoveling debris, dragging cans, and driving the dump truck…all this in between telling me that he won the lottery again! He never complained and always had a great and friendly spirit about him. He will be missed.”
– Ted Melnyk, Director of Operations, ELDI
Dom’s son Eric and grandson Jacob are carrying on the family business. We will continue to work with them both on future projects.
