Construction on the Ellsworth Avenue Pedestrian Bridge will begin Monday, May 2. Please click the updated detour map above.
The Urban Redevelopment Authority of Pittsburgh (URA) and the City of Pittsburgh’s Department of Public Works announced today that construction of the new pedestrian bridge connecting Shadyside to East Liberty is scheduled to begin Monday, May 2, 2011. The long-awaited pedestrian walkway will connect the intersection of Ellsworth Avenue and Spahr Street with the southwest corner of the Eastside development parking garage.
The following traffic restrictions will be in effect beginning May 2 until November 30, 2011:
- Ellsworth Ave. between Spahr St. and Lamont Place will be closed to vehicular traffic in both directions
- Ellsworth Ave. will be open to local and business traffic only from Maryland Ave. to Spahr St. and to local traffic only from Shady Ave. to Lamont Place
- Spahr St. will be open to local and business traffic only from Alder St. to Ellsworth Ave.
- Traffic northbound on Spahr St. will only be able to make a left hand turn onto Ellsworth Ave. (westbound)
The posted detour for the project is Shady Ave. to Alder St. to Maryland Ave. and back to Ellsworth Ave. All local businesses will remain open during construction.
Public transportation users should check with the Port Authority (PAT) as various bus stops located on Ellsworth Ave. in the project area will also be relocated during construction.
